When choosing a layout for my leaflet i made some prototypes fist to make sure it would work before i started to work on the design, after doing that i made a text version that would show where the front and the back and all the sections in between would go. I then started working on a colour palette for the individual sections, this also dictated what illustrations i would use and what colours i would end up making them.
